چکیده

We present evidence that the critical thickness for the appearance of misfit defects in a given material and heteroepitaxial structure is not simply a function of lattice mismatch. We report substantial differences in the relaxation of mismatch stress in Ge0 .5 Si0 .5 /Si superlattices grown at different temperatures on ( 100) Si substrates. Samples have been analyzed by x-ray diffraction, channeled Rutherford backscattering, and transmission electron microscopy. While a superlattice grown at 365 oc demonstrates a high degree of elastic strain, with a dislocation density < 10 em, structures grown at higher temperatures show increasing numbers of structural defects, with densities reaching 2 X 10 em 2 at a growth temperature of 530 OC. Our results suggest that it is possible to freeze a lattice-mismatched structure in a highly strained metastable state. Thus it is not surprising that experimentally observed critical thicknesses are rarely in agreement with those predicted by equilibrium theories.

Simulation of Micro-Channel and Micro-Orifice Flow Using Lattice Boltzmann Method with Langmuir Slip Model

Because of its kinetic nature and computational advantages, the Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) has been well accepted as a useful tool to simulate micro-scale flows. The slip boundary model plays a crucial role in the accuracy of solutions for micro-channel flow simulations. The most used slip boundary condition is the Maxwell slip model. The results of Maxwell slip model are affected by the ac...

Off-center rattling and anisotropic expansion of type-I clathrates studied by Raman scattering.

Dynamical motions of the guest ions in type-I clathrates Sr8Ga16Si(30-x)Gex and Ba8Ga16Si(30-x)Gex have been studied by Raman scattering spectroscopy, to clarify the role of guest vibration modes in these systems with unusual thermal transport behaviors. An anomalous decrease of the guest energies with decreasing temperature is observed for both systems. The Ge-doping expands the cage surroundi...

Dimensional accommodation of common harvesting combines’ seat with operators’ anthropometric characteristics and Proposition the proper Dimensions Based on Ergonomics Principles

Background and Aim: Agricultural combine harvesters play a crucial role in cereal productions. A combine operator performs almost all harvesting activities in seated posture. As an interface of the biomechanical system of operator’s body and combines’ mechanical system, seat has major effect on operator’s safety, health, and comfort. A successful design of seat is not achievable without conside...

The GEX-2 and GEX-3 proteins are required for tissue morphogenesis and cell migrations in C. elegans.

During body morphogenesis precisely coordinated cell movements and cell shape changes organize the newly differentiated cells of an embryo into functional tissues. Here we describe two genes, gex-2 and gex-3, whose activities are necessary for initial steps of body morphogenesis in Caenorhabditis elegans. In the absence of gex-2 and gex-3 activities, cells differentiate properly but fail to bec...
